Outreach

The education staff at the UM Museum aims to share our collections and programming outside of the Museum walls in Oxford and surrounding communities. Currently, the Museum develops programming for bi-monthly story time visits to the Lafayette County and Oxford Public Library related to museum exhibitions. Education staff also plans and delivers an activity twice a month to the Leap Frog after school program. Leap Frog is a tutoring program designed for first and second graders that are considered “at-risk” for falling behind in school. The Museum works closely with other community organizations such as the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council to find partnership opportunities to better serve our community. The Museum has also partnered with AmeriCorps VISTA to have a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA member at the Museum to help develop sustainable outreach programming with the goal of alleviating poverty and obesity in Mississippi. To find out more about our outreach activities, please contact Emily Dean, Curator of Education, at esdean@olemiss.edu or 662.915.7073. To find out about AmeriCorps VISTA contact the Museum at museum@olemiss.edu or 662.915.7073.
